Ah, Spring is in the air, and so is love! The birds are singing, the flowers are blooming, and the sun is welcoming us back outside.
Spring is a time of new growth. For many, it is a happy, joyous time- perfect for recapturing the feeling of new love through aromatherapy.
Do you remember the days when you first met your significant other? I do, and we were young and carefree. For you, maybe it was just recently, or maybe it has been decades ago. Back then, we could focus solely on one another and spend ALL of our time together. It was a wonderful time. I would relive those years over and over again.
We were together for a few years before we married and a few years more before we brought children into the world. We really experienced a honeymoon period up until we had kids. Then reality changed and it wasn’t all about us anymore. Our little ones needed us a lot. Like children do.
I am sure this is a familiar story. Yours might be a bit different, but I think we all can agree in the early years of a romance, it is magical. Then responsibilities and life seem to get in the way. You have to “work” on making time for each other and not take one another for granted.
There are some little things you can do today, now, to help rekindle that romance, that new love feeling, you had in the beginning of your relationship.
I am going to focus on using aromatherapy. You see, scent is strongly associated with memory. Has there ever been a time that you have caught the aroma of something? Maybe it was a homemade baked pie, your favorite kind made by your Grandmother. Or a perfume that reminds you of your mother. Or the scent of a pipe that perhaps your grandfather smoked.
Memory and scent are strongly tied together. It’s a beautiful thing really. An aroma of something can instantly take you back and let you relive memories you haven’t thought of for years!
So, if there are certain scents that remind you of your early dating years, you’ll want to be sure to incorporate them into what I’m going to suggest. Otherwise, we will use some new aromas to create some fantastic new memories!
First, I want you to create your own perfume and/or cologne just for you and your partner.
You can experiment together and see what you both like and what seems to be attractive to your partner.
Here are a few suggestions to get you started:
3 drops of dōTERRA®’s Whisper on the neck or wrists.
Apply 2 drops of dōTERRA®’s InTune to the back of the neck right under the hairline.
Perfume Blend for Her (Synduit)
-6 drops of Sandalwood
-3 drops of Ylang ylang
-3 drops Ginger
-10 ml Carrier Oil
-Combine in a glass rollerball bottle
Cologne Blend for Him
-6 drops of Sandalwood
-3 drops of Cinnamon Bark
-3 drops Patchouli
-10 ml Carrier Oil
–Combine in a glass rollerball bottle
Feel free to tap into your creativity and create blends of your own that you and your partner love!
One playful idea is to leave little love notes for your partner to find. I’ve hidden notes in lunch boxes, on the kitchen island to find in the morning when he gets up (he wakes earlier than me), in his suitcase when he travels for work, in his vehicle, etc.
On those notes you will want to add a drop of essential oil. Or better yet, add what you have been wearing as a perfume or cologne. This will trigger any recent memories you have created!
Add this to your sheets and pillowcases when you want to create a intimate mood for the bedroom!
Or diffuse those special scents in a diffuser to really create a special atmosphere!
There are many different ways to recapture your early days of romance.
Weekends away are the best, at least in my opinion, because you can recapture that feeling of new love again. The kids aren’t with you, it’s just you and your partner. By getting away somewhere, you don’t have the day in and day out responsibilities you generally have. For me, it helps to recreate those carefree days when we were young.
And don’t forget to bring along the new perfume and cologne you created!
