freeze frame

in that moment
a single tear escaped my eye
and i wanted to apologize
for making him make me die
as i stared
down the short barrel made of steel
and my breath locked
and i flicked my gaze
to the hammer that he cocked
and my voice trembled
as i begged him
calm down
because when we sat together
i refused to remove my gown
my skin was off limits
my lips were my own
and i counted the steps needed
to dash to the phone
but he lowered the gun
spat in my face and turned to leave
and i wondered
if i told
who would believe
