The Essentials of Communication: An Aromatherapy Approach

Do you find it difficult to sometimes find it difficult to communicate? I mean, we communicate every day. Either through physically speaking our native language, through sign language, body language, written word, dance, art, etc. There are many ways and we do it all the time.

Sometimes though, it doesn’t come naturally, or it becomes difficult for us.

Possibly you are shy, don’t like being around a lot of people, or have a fear of public speaking.

I am going to share some aromatic ways, using essential oils, that can help support you in areas where you find yourself having a hard time communicating. Yes, essentials oils can support this!

A Little Background

It’s funny–I never thought I would find myself a writer. It flows easily enough, but in school, I dreaded writing. Again, the words came easily, but I think forcing my writing to be a certain length and, more than likely, on a topic I didn’t enjoy made it a chore. I came to view all writing as unenjoyable.

I was always, and still am, considered a very shy person, an introvert. But I have come a LONG way! I teach classes and have no problem talking in front of others anymore. I used to get very nervous.

I recently was even a host on my own international online radio show, where I spoke to and with a live audience weekly! I was a little nervous, but excitedly grabbed the opportunity when it was presented to me. I knew it would help foster growth.

I felt the same about my writing. Today I can write about things I feel passionate about or things I want to educate others about because I feel the awareness around the topic is important or helpful to others.

How I Overcame My Fears

I grab certain essential oils that help me with whatever I am facing. For example, I still get nervous about being on live radio. I always grab Lavender, known as the oil of communication as it helps with calming nerves when speaking in public. I also use Cassia to help overcome my shyness and Spearmint (oil of confident speech) so I can speak clearly and confidently.

I might wear Sandalwood to help calm me down during a presentation or prior to a class and to help my body language relax. I always wear Focus Blend to help me remember everything and keep my train of thought. Peppermint I use to help keep my focus and also keep me perky and alert if I am presenting late at night.

Let’s say you need to have a difficult or awkward conversation with someone. What do you need to help you have that conversation? Courage (Clove), Compassion (Geranium), Confidence (Spearmint) or Connection (Marjoram)?

Maybe you need to communicate with someone who doesn’t respect boundaries and you need assistance with that. Cardamom, Clove (the oil of boundaries), Melaleuca (oil of energetic boundaries), Outdoor Blend (oil of shielding), Protective Blend and Oregano will work wonders!

Lavender and Spearmint can aide in blocked communication.
