Are we blinded by hatred?
There is a worryingly pragmatic shift to the right of the Political spectrum in the western world today. You can see it in the USA with the steps Donald Trump has been taking for the Republicans; the UK with the Conservative Party forcing an ideology on an otherwise blindsided public interest.
If you look at a mere 10 years ago people were generally happy. Racism and any form of stigmatism was continually and rightfully stamped out. The UK was a thriving, bustling metropolis of tolerance and respect. My Mum, bless her, was able to buy a house on a Receptionists in the late 90s, I was able to rent a house and live on my own comfortably on a blue collar wage. Life was.. well comfortable.
So why isn’t it like this now? Well, let’s throw politics aside. Let’s forget Politicians even exist for a moment shall we? We have record unemployment, record suicide rates, the people that were able to buy houses in the boom are able to rent those out at extortionate rates to those that can’t. Wages are meagre, unemployment doesn’t pay any bills. Bills or food my friend. Jobs aren’t aplenty any more. Employers receive thousands of applications from everywhere. Life is, well life sucks for a lot of people right now.
How does this impact on our Mental health? Well, we’re angry. Most people are angry in some shape or form to the way the world is currently. I see people complaining left, right and centre. We always need to blame someone. To vent that anger. If it isn’t the Immigrants; its the Muslims and if it isn’t them then it’s the unemployed, or the disabled. Anger is healthy but not healthy in such a way where you can’t vent it properly. Because it keeps on happening right? We’re currently blaming junior doctors for the systematic destruction of the NHS. I know, how does that make any sense, right? I’m sure next we’ll blame some other group. Always blaming; blame, blame, blame.
I have a solution. Our entire system is built up on the foundation that you follow it. You suck all the information up and blame the correct people and abide by the unified rules and so on. What if we were to stop? What if we were to actually look into ourselves and think, Actually, I’m going to make myself better. I’m not going to get sucked into this blame game and get into an endless blame frenzy, always angry. I’m going to look deep into myself and find out what’s making me deeply unhappy. Why am I deeply unhappy? What needs fixing in MY life. I can’t possibly be angry at someone I don’t know, and actually they’ve never really done anything to me. Except exist.
How can I fix my unhappiness? How can I make MY life better for ME. Forget the other stuff. How will being angry at immigrant/Muslim/unemployed person solve anything in your life? Start from there my friend and the world will be your oyster eventually. Trust me 🙂
